MEET THE CO-FOUNDERS

“Students will train with the industry professionals that have trained me and my Broadway colleagues.”

It Started With a Dream

Hi! I’m Laura Bell Bundy.

Welcome to Broadway Master Camp.

When I was a young theatre actor, I dreamt of one day having a school for the arts for other kids like me to express themselves, and as I found success in my career the desire to give back in that way only grew stronger.  I’m so thrilled to finally be able to do that.

A little about me. I grew up in Lexington, Kentucky, where my mom drove past horse farms to take me to dance class. At six, I had the opportunity to go to NYC for the summers.  While I was there, my mother hunted for the country’s best vocal, dance, and acting teachers. She found them, begged them to take me on, and put my training on a path that would shape my life.  At nine, I began working professionally in New York theater, and my training shifted to hands-on discovery—learning from directors, choreographers, composers, comedians, and fellow actors who showed me what true presence, comedic timing, fearless storytelling, and honest connection on stage feel like.  I never followed a traditional college path in musical theater,  and yet it’s woven into every fiber of who I am.

Starting in 2008, following Legally Blonde, I was frequently asked to give master classes in musical theater— for children, young adults, college students and college graduates. The feedback was deeply personal and transformative, tailored to each student’s unique voice. The pandemic in 2020 pushed me online, where I noticed shared patterns among those students and a universal need: a clear, practical method to break down material, connect with it—body, voice, and heart—and deliver performances with clarity and courage.

I began to think about my own process…. What exactly was it?  Can I break down everything I’ve learned and teach this to other people?  Sure can!  So I developed a 6 week intensive for students online that broke down my process for musical theater songs, and another six week intensive that broke down scene work for plays, TV, and film.

I then realized that if I had students for one week, I could teach them all of it, and still be able to make it personalized for the individual. Broadway Master Camp codifies that process into a curriculum that helps young performers unlock their material and their fullest potential.

Then I thought, how can I pack this week with the highest level of singing and dance training as well?

A big part of what makes the program distinctive is the roster of teachers who have trained Broadway stars. These mentors (some of them my own) bring the same precision, energy, and fearless artistry that propelled them to the highest levels of theater. They work with you side by side, sharing the methods and instincts they use on Broadway stages—so you’re learning from the best, to become your best.

My dream has always been to bring the same mentorship and training that shaped me to the next generation of performers. Here, on our bucolic 73-acre farm—with a dance barn, a music barn, a vineyard, and views of sheep and goats in the distance—you’ll learn to connect with your material, trust your instincts, and perform with honesty and fearlessness. This is where the art you were born to make meets the craft you can rehearse until it becomes second nature.

Into the woods we must go!

A Theatre Kid, Just Like You

Hello! I’m Lindsay Gates.

I’m so excited to welcome you to Broadway Master Camp.

You may already know Laura Bell Bundy—so let’s address the obvious question: who’s this other person?  From theatre kid to theatre parent to producer, my journey in theatre is probably a lot more similar to yours.

I grew up in Peoria, Illinois and came out of the womb a theatre kid. My entire family was deeply involved in local theatre, and I made my stage debut at age six in Fiddler on the Roof. I spent my childhood performing in over 100 productions and eventually expanded into assistant directing, sound design and choreography behind the scenes.

In 2004, my parents founded The Penguin Project, a theatre program for kids with disabilities. I’ve been involved since the beginning, and in 2011 I became the choreographer for the Peoria chapter. Today, I proudly serve as President of the Board, with more than 60 Penguin Project programs operating across the United States.

For the past several years, I’ve also been fortunate to invest in, co-produce, and produce Broadway and off-Broadway productions including A Strange Loop, Mama I’m a Big Girl Now, Dead Outlaw, Beau the Musical, and the upcoming Cats! The Jellicle Ball.

Most importantly, I’m a theatre parent. I have two children who dream of careers on stage — one currently studying musical theatre in college and one preparing to begin the college audition process. I understand the pressure families feel and how difficult it can be to find high-quality training that truly makes a difference in a short amount of time. When my daughter worked with Laura, Andrew, and Tiffany, the growth we saw was extraordinary. That experience is exactly why Broadway Master Camp exists: to provide meaningful, industry-informed training from artists who are passionate about shaping the future of theatre.

Let’s go Into the Woods!

sincerely,

Lindsay Gates
